Linux Server

Hi, I am currently running a temporary server on my windows computer to run my website (www.perfectgamers.com). I have ordered a server here are the specs:

CPU: Intel P4, 400 MHz FSB, 512K, 1.80 GHz

Motherboard: 800 MHz FSB: ECS 661FX-M, SIS661FX,
DDR400, AGP 8X w/Video,Audio,LAN

Ram: 2 X 512 MB DDR / 400 MHz ( PC-3200 ) RAM

Hard Drive: IDE: Maxtor 40GB, 7200 RPM, ATA100

I was thinking of putting Redhat Linux on there, do I need to know anything special about setting up a server with linux? Also do you guys know if Linux can run a counter strike and battlefield 1942 server?

thanks, josh89

nah, it's a peice of cake
it's very easy to get a webserver running, but getting it secured takes a little longer
and CS/BF1942 both have linux servers, but i wouldn't run a game server and a webserver at the same time if i were you, although that is a damn nice machine and will handle small traffic

mm? what do you mean by an "automatic update dns"? DNS lookups are performed based on /etc/resolv.conf...

I assume your talking about places like dynDNS.org or something? (for those who dont know: they provide a fixed domain name for people who have dynamic IP's)

heres a client,ez-ipupdate, that runs as a daemon and works with most free Unix's.

I found it here, a little searching goes a long way.

you only need the client that update you ip to dyndns.org, go to http://sourceforge.net and seek for: "dyndns", it shows you a list of differents clients, use any you want, good look
