Linux Samba Problem

Ok, I've googled this problem and searched these forums, and have still not been able to resolve this.

I have 2 linux boxes in my apartment and an XP box. I just upgraded to Slack 10 on my one box, and my other laptop also runs Slack 10. I can transfer files back and forth between all my machines, but the actual linux desktop takes much, much longer.

It took me 4 1/2 minutes to transfer a very large file from my XP box to my laptop, but it takes me 45-50 minutes to transfer it to my linux box. As well, it usually doesn't even finish with large files on my desktop. It tells me the "Path is too deep".

There are no symlinks, which is what almost all the responses I read suggested. Does anyone else know any other fixes for this? It really is annoying, as I use that linux box for backing up a lot of stuff. Before I upgraded to Slack 10, it was using a 666 mhz Celeron. I switched it over to a Syntax S635MP Motherboard with an onboard Via C3 800mhz processor, and then reinstalled Slack. I don't know if that would make any difference.

So, do any of you know why Samba would do this? Like I said, the same file copies perfectly fine onto my laptop, which is running the same thing as the desktop.

Thanks for the help ~

Are you using long file names?
