linux p2p filesharing

hi again
what do you guys use for p2p filesharing in linux?
i had to delete my pr0n to install redhat and i want it back =)
gnutella sucks, and i haven't been able to wine kazaa yet so i'm stumped (again)

I use DCGUI, its fast and you can find whatever you need. *wink, wink*

I just found out about gtk-gnutella. I'd used BearShare in Windows, so the overall interface and options were familiar to me. It installed easily and works extremely well with RH & 9.

without doubt, l-mule is the best IMHO . emule was the best p2p proggie in windows. So many fakes on the gnutella/limewire network

crashmeister 04-29-2003 04:13 AM

You can try mldonkey - does mainly edonkey and overnet.

sonicadventure 04-29-2003 04:25 AM

So is I-mule stable? I am running emule plus 1.0b for windows and it crashs every few hours or so.

neenee 04-29-2003 04:58 AM

lmule is (very) stable. (and it's an L, of Linux)

ludwig W 04-29-2003 06:36 AM

yes,it's very stable. It was stable for me under windows too.
It seems to be faster under Linux, for some reason.

e/lm donkey is slower than the mule.
Just make sure you have the ports open that the mule needs (4662) and connect to a good server, like ProbenPrincz or Silent Bob.Then add about 10 downloads you need from sharereactor and watch your dowloads fly along. :)

neenee 04-29-2003 06:51 AM

hmmz... my downloads never fly along :(
not with lmule, mldonkey or any other
edonkey client. i'm lucky if i get 20kb/s
transfer rates... i can do much faster
though; and my download limit is set at
160kb/s... suggestions on how to improve
speed are welcome.

ludwig W 04-29-2003 07:01 AM

well, what a lot of people think is that emule and edonk are slow. However, what one needs to do is download about 10 or more things at once from the mule/donkey network. Each DL will pull a relatively small amount, but all together,if they are popular sources, you should get good download speeds.
I'm on ADSL so,if I get about 10 files to download,I can get up to 60kb/s,which is prety good for me.
Ti/cable connections will of course get more.

Also,as I said, make sure that you have a good server met, keep only those servers that have a high number of files on,Like Silent bob, Adnet etc. You only need about the 3 or 4 top servers.Make sure that the mule is not set to update the servelist each time it connects.

Also thanks to the castrated ADSL lines that are sold today everybody want to d/l with 5gb/s and upload with 5kb/s.Doesn't work too well.

neenee 04-29-2003 07:24 AM

my problem with the edonkey network is not that i can not
download a list of files at a combined fast speed, but that i
can not download one file at a fast speed; i often do not
need a list of files. thank you for explaining what you meant
by files flying along ludwig, though i'm afraid it does not help
me.

crashmeister 04-29-2003 07:56 AM

If you want to d/l one specific file that isn't well spread it will take some time - I got some files that are going for about 2 weeks for 700 mb and are at about 50%.

neenee 04-29-2003 08:20 AM

yup. unfortunately even wide-spread files take me
long to get (often a day or two) for some reason.

crashmeister 04-29-2003 08:30 AM

Try mldonkey - maybe it works better for you. They improved emule support a lot lately.lmule is pretty new and might have some trouble with that. You can also try to kill it and then restart it.If it runs faster for a while after the restart there might be a problem with source handling.
