Linux p2p

I was wondering what the most popular linux p2p network is, because the networks I know of (lime wire, eDonkey) don't have what I'm looking for.

Any help is appreciated.

You've to be more specific mate... really more specific. You could start saying, for example, why Limewire and eDonkey did not fit your purposes... Was it slow? Too little peoples sharing files? You could not install it?.

Anyway, the best program to get music is still Kazaa... but that only if you are going to download a single song. Other then that, very few applications out there will beat xMule when downloading a full album...

Anyway, here are some other p2p:

Gift:

I believe the most populars are bittorent, gift with Kazaa Fast Track Plugin, xMule family and limewire...

giFT with FastTrack plugin has always worked the best for me. a lot of people also like soulseek/nicotine.

They just don't have large networks...and don't have certain things I look for IE: bands/songs.

Gotcha ya . Well, if it's something like Kazaa that you need then get giFT with FastTrack plugin, or try running Kazaa under wine. I would recommend you staying away from wine at any cost though . A tutorial covering Kazaa and wine is found here

Good luck!

In my experience, a lot of the p2p choices you'll make for "music" depends on what you want. The best classical and metal communities are DC++, where for more mainstream stuff, Kazaa or WinMX really do the trick. I'd also hunt for some torrents if you're looking for full albums, in addition to perusing the alt.binaries.* newsgroups.

Not that I know anything about sharing music.

don't bother with DC unless you know of some good hubs. ime, you'll waste days on there and not get anything.

1. configure giFT: gift-setup
2. run the giFT daemon: giftd -d
3. run giFTcurs: giFTcurs
4. check for problems: giftd -v

i'm running suse 9.1. trying gt2-gnutella. what settings do i need for my firewall to get p2p to work? i completely turned off the firewall to test p2p and i instantly got connection attempts to the servers, but none made it through negotiation for connect, they kept getting dropped. is there another setting i need to change for p2p, perhaps it's because i'm behind a router on a home lan. ideas?
