This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

Are you sure this is not 'Init not found'? In that case, something went badly wrong during your install - probably your kernel is looking for the root filesystem in the wrong place. You'll need a boot disk or CD to remedy that.
Another problem. I used Partion Magic 8.0 to partition my harddrive for linux. Now I am trying to delete the partition, to start over again, because the linux partition part is divided into three sections. When I try to delete the partition, it says error 505 occured. how do i fix the problem??
what exactly are you trying to do with partition magic? Are you trying to wipe all the partitions on your hard drive clean, and then start again with linux? If so, then just use the partitioning software that should come with your distro's cd :- [c]fdisk.
reinstall when you get to the partition screen let linux do it for you but show results, when you are in that screen delete all the partistions except for the swap file, then add a new one give it the / (root) and go from there
Look i have tried all your ideas, but none of them seem to work. Could this be a reason why linux doesn't work
I have two IDE keys, but i can only boot from one of them. So to install linux i have to change the wires around so it boots from the CD drive. Then i have to change the wires around to boot from the hard drive. Could it be that linux has configured the non-bootable IDE key to the hard drive........
Or could it be something to do with plug and play, beacuse i read somewhere that linux has poblems with it.
