(Gaim handles msn, yahoo, aol, and installs easy)

Kopete http://kopete.kde.org * * * *
(Kopete looks pretty and handles msn, yahoo, aol)

Amsn http://amsn.sourceforge.net * * *
(Amsn....msn messanger clone (no further comments)

Yahoo http://www.yahoo.com * * *
(works...yes but with gaim, and kopete why bother?)


CD-BURNING SOFTWARE:

K3B http://k3b.kde.org * * * * *
(K3b installs easy looks good and a monkey could figure it out)

Xcdroast http://www.xcdroast.org * * * *
(My personal favorite but takes a while to get used to.)


MEDIA PLAYERS:

Xmms http://www.xmms.org * * * *
(If you like winamp youll like this, doesnt play movie files)

Mplayer http://www.mplayerhq.hu * * * * *
(plays cds, dvds, vcd, mpg, avi, rm, you name it...)

Xine http://xine.sourceforge.net * * * *
(plays cds,dvds, vcd, mpg, avi, asf, looks good)


WEB BROWSERS:

(great)

FIrebird http://www.mozilla.org * * * * *
(fast, great)

(slow, but dependable)


P2P CLIENTS:

Limewire http://google.com (im tired of linking) * * * *
(not bad but slow and it requires java wich is why its slow)

Xmule http://google.com * * * * *
(works great and has alot of features limewire has)

Gnutella http://google.com * * * * *
(IMHO the best ......its not pretty but has very little bloat)


IRC CLIENTS:

Xchat http://www.xchat.org * * * * *
(really good irc client.....user freindly and looks good)

BitchX http://www.bitchx.org * * * *
(for avid irc users....has options alot of clients dont have.)


Thats about all I could think of that a newbie might need to get started and enjoy Linux.......if you think of anything else to add say and ill add it.

Don't take this the wrong way, I think what you've done is great....but wouldn't this be better off in the Newbie forum?

i think its a great list ihave been asking several questions the last few days about p2p irc chat etc.and this answered them all so far thx much
