Linux Mail Server
Hi,
I was wondering which program i need to install to get my linux to act as a mail server. I want to use my linux box to download email from my internet accounts, and then use outlook express on my win XP machine to access my own mail server. Any ideas? Or is this not worthwhile at all? |
Hi,
You can use fetchmail to do the job. That will let you retrieve all your messages, but unless you have a MX record on DNS pointing to your server, you won't be able to use it for outgoing messages. You should use your ISP's own smtp server for doing that. |
if you want to redistribute mail internally you'll want an imap or pop3 server running too. e.g. courier-imap or wu-imap...
and you should be able to send out mail without too much problem, ideally MX's should be sorted, but you'll probably be fine without doing any of that. i'd suggest exim as the best smtp server in terms of ease of configuration and features |
