Linux Installations

I've been using Linux for a couple months now. I was really excited at first, but program installations are getting me down. It seems there's always an endless list of dependencies...and once i get the list, one of the dependecies invariably has yet another list! Is there any way to get around this tedious task? I hate to say it, but I miss clean windows installs.

Is there anything in particular that you're trying to install? Also, don't forget that many of the dependencies, such as libraries, may well be on your installation cds already.

If dependency hell is getting to you, then you may want to check out apt4rpm or urpmi

I was actually trying to install doom legacy, and a recording program called ardour. Thanks for the heads up on those apps!
