Question Linux Instalfest/Monitor Parameters Question.

It is known that if one brings their PC to a Linux Instalfest then one can get Linux installed in their PC for free or for a small fee. At the time of installation, how are the parameters for the clients home PC entered ? Or is the client asked to change them at home ? Reason being if the Monitor used in the instalfest has different parameters than the home PC, then the PC may not work or the monitor may even be damaged permanently.
