Linux Games Suitable for kids age 7 thru 16
I'm about to roll out 30 Linux desktops at school, but before I do, I want to ensure that I have a full complement of Linux games.
I already have all the games which come with SUSE 9.3, if you are aware of additional Linux games / educational products which would be suitable for school kids grades 3 through to grade 12 please let me know. - Thanks Roly |
Three games I consider great fun (and quite suitable):
Supertux (Super Mario'ish) Power Manga (2d scrolling space shoot-'em-up) FreeCiv (Civilization clone) I don't know if they're in the default installation of SuSE x.x, so check yourself. You may also want to have a look at blobwars--great fun, but may be inappropriate. hth --Jonas |
Freeciv, possibly America's Army
I don't know of many educational games. Freeciv is mildly educational. |
Battle for wesnoth. Not educational though ;)

I agree on Supertux, there is also frozen-bubble and of course the KDE games are already on there. Maelstrom is a kind of enhanced Asteroids clone and Chromium B.S.U. is a fast paced space shooter. Look at the games on www.libsdl.org.

TuxRacer
|
Ah yes forgot about Tuxracer. There is also tuxkart.
|
I'm 20 and love tuxracer. As does my girlfriend, which is the limit of her linux-related experience, sadly.
|
Planet Penguin Racer, it's an updated version of TuxRacer since TuxRacer isn't free anymore
|
kball supertux, tuxmath, tuxtyping,Ur-quan masters, penguin command, gcompris, childsplay, lbreakout, lletters, mathwar, lmemory, komi, gravitywars, cuyo, armagetron, adonthell, and many many more. Then there is the education-desktop apps.
|
remember to turn of the voice effects in lbreakout.
