Ok don't listen to the bull crap about how it is or isn't cuz i can tell you Linux kicks arse as a gaming os. My system:
Athlon XP 1900+
512 mb DDR
Geforce 4 Ti4200
40 gb hdd
Red Hat 9
It screams through the games like never before
i use WineX 3.1 by Transgaming and have linux installs of UT, UT2003, NWN, and RTCW and they all play with out problems. Linux has given me the best frame rates i have ever had in my life so in my best opinion i like linux over windows for games.

i think Linux does better then windoze in performance because Linux accesses the hardware more directly. how on earth could you get winex working?! since i subscribed, i think its a waste of 30$. nothing has worked. at all. but my point is: linux is a better gaming machine then windoze, linux just has one problem: its popularity isnt considered to be important enough to game developers. if we can get that... windoze dies. how about signing this petition? http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/190498263
Yeah I have Ut2003 and quake3 running brilliantly on my RH9 ATH2000/512mb sdram/Sound B live 5.1 - it plays real nice.
I plan to run Urban Terror soon.
Reluctant to use an emulator for Counter Strike - it's an awful shame they don't have a linux version - I will not play it anymore until they port it. The new version CS3 should be ported over - there is no excuse.
PS: I started a petition for a linux version in the CS forum under the suggestions/ideas about a week ago - anyone interested should add their uid to it.
Ok what is your problem with Winex i have no problems getting stuff working i just need to know what you are trying to run on it. Or the problem you are having with it.

if you wanna know my problem w/ winex, here it is: when i install a game w/ it, the install goes fine, but running the game doesnt work at all. i do get some debug output from the konsole when i run it like that, it always gives me a pid number and another number, then it just hangs for a while, then it exits without an obvious error message. this happens w/ every game. ive successfully installed but havent been able to run: warcraft 3, moto racer 3. ive also tried starcraft, but it wont even install, it just hangs and i have to kill the wineserver.
You might want to try to run it with 'strace winex blah'.At least I think thats how I found out it wouldn't run the games because it couldn't access the CD for some copy protection stuff.

it did the exact same thing, except strace gave me alot of messages that said rt_sigprocmask. after that, i got the same debug stuff from winex, but i can tell you exactly what it said: mmtime pid=3617 tid=3617. then it just hangs and i killed it. any suggestions?
