Linux Firewalls Question?

Hi All,

I am trying to see What sort of firewalls are available on linux; for home users. especially if there is any thing which provides features like ZoneAlarm do on windows ? where you can choose to allow different programs diffferent sorts of access (i.e. 'act as server' etc.) on different type of ports.
and importantly you get to know wass going on; by means of alerts which zone alarm pops up/logs?

Thanks in advance.

Linux doesn't work quite the same way in the respects you are speaking. The newer distros use iptables(netfilter), in order to filter specified ports and perform the action specified. I hear Firestarter is a nice GUI program for setting a basic one up though, might wanna look into that.

MonMotha's script is really nice and fairly simple to setup a nice iptables firewall. Even with most everything being done for you, it's not a bad idea to checkout netfilter.samba.org to get a handle on exactly what's going on
