Question Linux Excessive Disk I/O Delay

At my work, we have an application that runs under Suse 9 on HP DL585 hardware. We noticed that periodically at about 15 second interval, we would experience an excessive delay when writing to disk. The latency is very important to this particular application, but we cannot figure out why this is happening. Can anyone help? Thank you in advance.

And welcome to LQ!

Chances are that you have something like LAUS of FAM running, which will try
to keep track of file-access and adding it to an audit-log. It would help to
know the type of application, though, and what kind of impact you're finding.

It may also be that the problem is "home-made" e.g. if it was a database
application, and you did something silly like having OS, database files, index
files and and redo logs on one physical device rather than on individual disks
or RAID-groups.
