Linux equivalent to Notepad++

Before, I used to do all my text editing in Notepad++, but I found out that you can't recompile it for Linux. Is there something like it? Preferably, multi-platform.

Note: I'm not looking for an IDE, just a text editor.

SciTE is based on the exact same code that NotePad++ is based on. I have used both and keep going back to Gedit for writing Web pages and CSS stylesheets.

Kustom42, only works for Linux with apt-get. Slackware doesn't have that.

Kate looks to be about what I wanted, thanks.

There are many great text-editors for Linux. As already mentioned above, there are Gedit, Kate and SciTe. Although it is an IDE, Geany is worth a look. Of course the obvious Emacs and Vi(m), both have command-line and GUI versions. I personally prefer Vim (I use the command-line version, even when I have X running), when you have grasped the concept (which may take some time) you will find a very powerful and extensible editor. Emacs may be similar, but I just prefer Vim.
