Linux - door swipe program

Ok I dont really know whats its called. But im wondering if theres a program for linux that manages multi-controllers. A program thats like NPower? Pretty much its just a bunch of ip's that when you "unlock" a door it sends a signal to that ip to tell it to "unlock"?

Thanks

Matt

I think you might be refering to port knocking? You would need to set up script that works in conjunction with you firewall. If you "knock" on the ports in a predefined order, it will modify the firewall rules to do whatever you want.

hmmm, could be. I didn't think of it that way. Now I know what I want for my birthday ...electronic locks controlled by my Linux router which I can unlock with my phone over bluetooth. Ah, my schedual for the next year or so just filled up :)

...lousy information...

I remember a guy on an episode of HackTV doing stuff with cardswiping... I wish I knew which, and if I had the time again, I'd download and check...

It's near the end of one, in a poorly lit room... I think after some geocaching, but I might be wrong. The guy on the show talks about a website... I wish I could rememeber, but hopefully a step in the right direction.

We have those things on the outside of the dorms at my university. We have a little card that we have a food plan on and stuff, but we can just hold it up to this little thingy on the door and if you have the right card it'll click the lock open for you. To tell you the truth, it's almost more trouble than it's worth... they break down alot, and people's cards randomly quit working (I had to get a new one 3 times last semester), stuff like that. We just got them this year though, so it may be they're just still working the bugs out of the system. Sure are cool though :P.
