Linux doesn't detect my CD writer ???

I ran k3b and there is no device to select for writer??? I said to myself wtf? then I ran

Code:
root@mx:/home/sys7em# cdrecord -scanbus
Cdrecord 2.00.3 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2002 Jцrg Schilling
cdrecord: No such file or directory. Cannot open '/dev/pg*'. Cannot open SCSI driver.
cdrecord: For possible targets try 'cdrecord -scanbus'. Make sure you are root.
cdrecord: For possible transport specifiers try 'cdrecord dev=help'.
root@mx:/home/sys7em#
What is that supose to mean?

What kernel version do you have, you may need to enable scsi emulation. If you have a 2.6 series kernel then you should not have to.

Well that sucks, I just ran cdrecord -scanbus and got a similar problem. I have not burned cd's in a while but I do have k3b and stuff. Looks like an issue with the 2.6.8.1 kernels I presume. No time to look into mine now but when I fix it I'll try and post a solution if you have not already Here is the output from mine with a little bit more info.

Cdrecord-Clone 2.01 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2004 Jörg Schilling
cdrecord: Warning: Running on Linux-2.6.8
cdrecord: There are unsettled issues with Linux-2.5 and newer.
cdrecord: If you have unexpected problems, please try Linux-2.4 or Solaris.
cdrecord: Warning: Linux-2.6.8 introduced incompatible interface changes.
cdrecord: Warning: SCSI transport does no longer work for suid root programs.
cdrecord: Warning: if cdrecord fails, try to run it from a root account.
cdrecord: No such file or directory. Cannot open '/dev/pg*'. Cannot open SCSI driver.
cdrecord: For possible targets try 'cdrecord -scanbus'.
cdrecord: For possible transport specifiers try 'cdrecord dev=help'.

Edit --update

Well after seeing this I decided to burn a cd and depsite the claims from the output above I was able to burn a cd sucessfully with k3b. So I guess maybe it's not the kernel with your issue.
