Linux desktop through ssh

Hi,
i'm doing an internship in a compagnie and they want me to reach a linux CentOS 5 desktop from windows 7 through ssh. The CentOS 5 VM is on their server and i only have access to the terminal. I have instaled vncserver on the linux VM and RealVNC on windows 7 but i get a weird looking interface with no option other than firefox and the terminal. I was wondering if that is normal since i only have access to the linux terminal at frist place. Ideally i would like have acess to the full interface of the linux VM.
Thanks.

See if this gets you going.

I don't exactly get this statement. "weird looking interface with no option other than firefox and the terminal"

Looks like you are forwarding x over ssh.

Either right or left click on free area may produce a menu of sorts. See if it does.
