Before I rushed into things I wanted to ask a question about a cd I burned. I downloaded all the packages and then burned them onto a cd into their corresponding directories (ie. a[1-11], etc.)under the parent directory "slakware". Will having a parent directory screw things up or will the installation program for Slackware7.1 be able to still find the packages?

The installation will find it, but you have to remember the directory on the CD where you installed it. In your case I think /slakware

It depends on the install program. Like mathi said you should be OK for Slackware, but some distro will definately choke on this. In the future you may want to consider downloading the ISO image. Let us know how the insall goes.
