linux broadcast grade video

any suggestions re: a good video editing app that can save clips for use at a local TV station?

there will be 2-30min interviews per year for which they would like clips supplied from the field to include in the interview.

i have the latest xine installed fr:source-forge, it reads the videos that were burned to dvd for me fine. can i do editing with that? i will try to contact them and see if there is a particular video format they would prefer.

i can install any kernel/distro needed to support possible apps.

Cinelerra. Its based on the Gimp but for cinema editing. I think that's what you need.

cool, i have gimp 1.3 installed already, i'll do a quick search for cinelerra.. thx

I see you run Suse. Since you gotta pay for that one, you get some extras, right? I noticed that cinelerra is in "contrib" with Mandrake, so I bet you have it in a nice neat rpm just waiting for your download. :D

well actually i just downloaded the latest build of cinelerra and it installed beautifully! have it up and running right now... what an awesome app! very impressed. excellent renderfarm capabilities, very functional.

thx

Yeah, I noticed that. It far beyond my present capabilities. Then again, so is the Gimp (and the win32 equiv - some will argue here - PSP)

wow,

even more impressed the more i use it! thx again for the suggestion. anyone else interested, here are a couple links:

i have to admit i was skeptical about finding an app to meet my needs. this thing just rox. it supports renderfarm, firehose, you name it... vgw by the developers.

i'm sure there are others who would find this software useful.

A "hidden gem" that the big studios seem to have found. Seems to be as useful (for its purpose) as Maya is.

big studios are using it? wow, "hidden" is really the key word... i had never heard of it before our friend posted the suggestion above :D

cool.
