linux boots to (none) login, yet i can't type anything
I'm a student studying linux, one morning I come in and I think the school changed the hardware in my desktop, I had some problems so I tried to run fsck and linux rescue off the boot disk and now my system boots to just this (none) login:
Could be it's wanting you to log in as root into a maintenance system to repair the filesystems manually rather than from a Live CD. What messages are displayed just before you're left at the login prompt?
the system starts with uncompress linux, runs through something very fast, too fast to read, then I get
"Fedora Core release 2 (tettnang)
kernel 2.6.5-1.3585smp on an i686"
(none) login:
the other thing is that I can't even type here?
yesterday I'd gotten to
"error during file system check"
I was able to login to (repair filesystem)#1 thats when I tried fsck and linux rescue.
I don't know I'm stuck, I'm a novice.
