Linux Automatic Update

I recently had Mandriva detect and install updates from the internet with the Mandriva online GUI program. I saw it installed a Kernel-source with a version higher then my current kernel, I belive it was kernel-source 2.6.12-22mdk and also downloaded 134 other updates....

After they installed I reboot I did a uname -r and my kernel is still 2.6.12-19.. Why did automatic update dl and install a new kernel and then not install it... How can I be sure it installed all of the updates it downloaded if it didnt install the kernel and how do I install the kernel???? WHy did it dl the new kernel and not install it?

The kernel-source package you installed installed the source code for a newer kernel. You either need to install the kernel package that matches, or make a new kernel using the source.
