Linux audio driver for Intel 915 Family Chipset
Hi all,
At my office desk, I have a Pentium IV 3.2 GHz with an Intel 915 chipset. I installed Red Hat Linux 9, but the audio isn't working. On searching the Intel site, I found that Intel hasn't yet released Linux audio drivers for this chipset. Could anyone help me out? Another query : I have another computer on the LAN, that runs Linux and audio is working fine on it. So, is there a way I can remote login to that machine from my desk machine, and then run some media server there, that streams audio to my desk machine? Can I listen to any audio then, though my desk machine doesnt have the correct audio driver? May be I got this all wrong, but is there any other way to use the remote machine to listen audio on my desk machine? Thanks for any help. Sambit |

I had the same problem. Solution found:
Install a new kernel AND Alsa 1.0.8 and then you should type alsaconf to install the driver. I was unable to correcty install a new alsa so I just switched to a distro that already comes with alsa 1.0.8 and a new kernel: Mandrake 10.2 It detected the audio driver upon installation and no more problems!!!
