Question LINUX and Windows XP

I have Windows XP Home installed on a Compaq Presario 5900Z ...Can I now install LINUX? Or is there compatibility problems? XP looks for "Signatures" before it installs anything including printer driver, e.g. Canon Multipass 2500.

umm.. linux is an alternate operating system... not a windoze app. (although there are a few projects that run under windoze).
you can install linux separately from xp, then dual boot if you like.
