Question Linux and MS SharePoints

Hi all,

The company I work for is about to deploy an intranet based on MS SharePoint Services. Me and three other guys there use Linux as the desktop OS. So far this hasn't caused us any problem (quite the opposite, I was a Linux user before I started working for them, and I wouldn't voluntarily switch to Windows), but now this SharePoint Services raised a whole new problem: although it is web-based, I can only access it if I am logged on the Windows 2003 'realm' (otherwise I get error 401.2 "Unauthorized: Access is denied due to server configuration").

Has anyone out there gone through this? Is it solvable (aside from VMWare, of course)? Will I have to replace Linux?

TIA

Andre

Talking SOLVED

Hi all,

just for the record, I solved this issue with help from the info posted on MS Knowledge Base.

Basically, the problem lied on IIS, and it turns out that if you enable 'basic authentication' (i.e. clear text, SSL optional), you can login provided you have a valid Windows domain password (using DOMAIN\username).

I can now access MS SharePoint Services using either Opera, Firebird or Mozilla. IE-specific bells and whistles don't show up, but MS has implemented alternate code that will enable decent visualization on non-IE browsers.

HTH

Andre
