Linux 7.2 install fails after setting partitions

Old packard bell 133 pentium and only 32 ram. Linux says only text install is supported because not enough ram. I set partitions after booting with boot.img and first 7.2 install cd.After partitions are set and it is time for package loading, the cd spins and spins with no activity bar or anything happening on the hard drive. I let it spin for 2 hours just to make sure it wasn't doing something. I chose only classic x windows and KDE and have enough space according to install. I have tried 2 times and same result. I need help!!!! could this be an issue with old cd-rom?????

The text install mode doesn't show that much progress indication. And especially if you are using old slow hardware two hours isn't much. I installed Mandrake 7.2 on a 486 with a 2x cdrom player. The whole install took more then 6 hours. And it was often not displaying activity besides the cdrom light blinking once in a while. That was a very minimal install. I don't know which Distro you are installing since you only mentioned Linux 7.2. I'm guessing Redhat 7.2 which will definetly take a long time. Although it should show some activity once in a while. Especially the harddrive light blinking once in a while, assuming that it is connected.

Michael, I'm having a simular probelm. See my thread:

Does your motherboard have built-in components like a modem or video card? I'm thinking that's the problem I'm having. I can't prove, 'cause I'm new at this...
