linphone on Debian Jessie, cannot register SIP account.
Hi all,
I have recently installed linphone on my acer C720 chromebook running Debian Jessie, and purchased an SIP account from a voip provider.
The first step towards using linphone is to use a wizard to enter username, password and domain name (+ optionally proxy).
I am unable to complete this step. There is a button labelled <APPLY> in the bottom right hand corner of the dialogue which is not illuminated, although I have fully entered the username, password and domain name provided by my voip provider.
I can't find any documentation relating to this problem or any evidence that other users have encountered it. That may imply that I am doing something completely wrong?
Any help appreciated, or advice re: other suitable softphones for use with Debian Jessie.
Yes, I am trying Ekiga and twinkle. With Ekiga, I come to the SIP account setup dialogue and it asks for: Name, Registrar, user, authentication user and password.
The information I have is: user, password, domain name. I don't know what "registrar" is and I don't know what "authentication user" is. I assume "name" is just my name, "user" is the SIP username (without @domainname?) and I assume "password" is the SIP account password from my voip provider.
So to move that forward, I just need to know what "authentication user" and "Registrar" mean, and where to put the domain name that I have for my SIP provider.
Ekiga help was not found. So I thought I would have a go first with Twinkle, and come back to look for Ekiga help / manual if that does not work.
So far, Twinkle won't install. As I work to resolve that, any help on how to setup the account with Ekiga would be appreciated.
Okay, have found Ekiga manual and registered my SIP account. To test it, I dialled 904@mouselike.org, which answered. So I know audio in is working. But I was unable to select any of the five test options offered using the Ekiga keypad (which works fine for inputting phone numbers to be dialled, except there is no audio feedback to the headphones).
Okay, all now working fine with Ekiga. Have completed satisfactory echo tests. As for keypad not functioning during calls, this was fixed by going to <eidt><preferences><protocols><SIP settings><DTMF mode> and selecting RFC 2833.
