Hello! I've got gtk-gnutella working, but I need to get rid of it since updating GIMP and installing gnucash both seem to require the removal of gtk+ and pango (exactly why I do not quite understand). When I try to install Limewire, it tells me that there is no JVM on my machine, but JVM exists and it works just fine. The error message is something like "There is no JVM in your PATH environment variable." What file do I have to edit to put JVM in my PATH environment variable, and what should it look like after the edit?
when you type "echo $PATH" you'll see a ":" separated list of directories. That's where the shell goes and look for executables. if no "/usr/java/" or similar appears, then Limewire won't be too happy.
modify it using
export $PATH=$PATH:/usr/java (or the right jvm path) and see what Limewire's installer says.
If it's happy, then you should have a look at /etc/profile and /etc/profile.d and see how you can get that defined for all users at each boot.
There might be some slight inaccuracies in my answer but that might put you on the right path (no pun intended)

Further to what duke said, it's the /usr/java/bin directory or similar that you need....importantly the bin subdirectory of the java directory is where the runtime executables are stored.
OK, well, that was easy. Thanks. Actually, as it turns out, gtk-gnutella still works fine. Apparently it was just the -devel packages that needed to be uninstalled, and (I guess) they were just used in compiling gtk-gnutella and didn't have anything to do with actually running the program. But it's nice to know how to add things to PATH anyway. Thanks again!
