Lilypond 2.12 upgrade installed but still running old version

This is so basic but I couldn't find any help on the application website or archives.

I used Synaptic to get the latest stable version of Lilypond but the program is still running the old version (2.10). What else do I have to do run the new version?

I'm running Jaunty on a lenovo thinkpad R61i.
