Lilo works but can't load mandrake
system :
Toshiba satellite
OS Windows XP home and Mandrake 9.1
what I was doing
I was trying to resize my windows partition to a smaller size to give Mandrake a bigger partition.
I resized the partition using partition magic 8.0 but I can't resize the Mandrake partition. So I thought I will give Mandrake a swap partition. Duing that lilo (i think) to change my mandrake partition from /hda5 to /hda6. I rebooted and now Mandrake wont load. Lilo loads and Win XP will load (thats how Im typing this).
I guess the question is.
How do I exit lilo from boot up of from XP? so I can change the setting to reflect the new partition?
Thanks

You will need to use your Mandy install CDs and boot to 'rescue' mode. Edit your fstab file, and your lilo.conf file to respect the changes to your harddisk 'layout', re-run lilo to put the changes into effect and then sit back and pray.

I tried that. But I can't seem to find the lilo.conf file. I ran the mandrake "restore windows boot record" and then tried to reinstall lilo boot file (from the rescue menu) but that didnt work either.
I don't know why I don't have a lilo.conf file.
so basically my system boots straight into windows.
Any sugestion on how to recover - re-install lilo. I would consider a complete re-install if I thought it would not remove my data (documents ans settings).

the config file is /etc/lilo.conf you will need to be root to save changes to it.

Maybe your normal root partition is not mounted? Check the output of mount.

I'm sorry, but I'm not a total expert, and I don't use Mandrake...I'm not sure how the Mandrake rescue thing works, but to mount drives, usually you do:
Code:
mount -t type device location
If your root is /dev/hda5,
Code:
mount -t ext3 /dev/hda5 /
(I think Mandrake uses ext3)
