Question Lilo + Windows98 + Slackware 10.0 Default Inst...Please Help!

Hello,

First, thank you for reading my post! Here is my question...

How do I dual boot Windows 98 and Linux (Slackware 10)

let me explain...

I have 1 Computer and Two Hard drives ( 2 HDs) I want to be able to...

-Boot Windows98 off of one hardrive for my wife
-Boot Slackware 10 off of another for my own use
-I want the Windows 98 Partition to stay "clean" from MBR modification or deletion
-I want all the Boot info to come from the Slackware HD

I have read the Lilo-HOWTO, I have read the other Linux+OS2+DOS+Win95 guide as well, if someone can point me in the right direction (e.g. documents, howto's etc) that woudl be great, but if you can solve the problem right now thank you in advance!

oh yeah jumper settings...

Slackware HD is MASTER
Windows98 HD is SLAVE (yes i am aware of the irony)

thanks again!

I don't understand the remark about keeping win98 clean from MBR modification. If you want Slack's Lilo to serve as bootloader, then you will need to write Lilo to the MBR. Then, if Slack doesn't write the entry for win98, you will have to add it manually to lilo.conf. Since win isn't on the master drive, you have a complication. With grub, you would add the lines:
map hd0 hd1
map hd1 hd0
chainloader +1
somewhere in the win98 clause of grub.conf, to remap the drives and make win98 think it's the master drive. I'm sure there's something similar for Lilo.
Once configured correctly, Lilo will show a menu of available OS's. The user just uses the up/down arrow keys to select the one to boot, and presses enter. You could, for sake of marital harmony, make win98 the default to boot. Just press enter to begin booting without for the timeout to run it's course.
I know it's also possible to map, from withing windows, the second drive to boot windows directly, but you'll be left without the ability to boot Slack without a boot disk, or
get the linux-win98-loadlin howto. Create a linux folder in \windows, including a copy of loadlin.exe, a copy of the kernel image from Slack's /boot directory, and a linux.bat file.
To boot Slack without a boot disk, press and hold the ctrl key during power-on-self-test (when you first turn power on), and get to the dos menu. choose the option that gets you into command-line mode in windows. cd fro a:\ to c:\linux, and run linux.bat to boot Slack from the windows partition.

the easiest way to get this to work is switch the drives win98=master
slackware=slave

Since they are already installed after you switch them boot from 98 floppy type: fdisk/mbr enter
then reboot, make sure 98 boots
then use slackware 10 disc2 and type: mount root=/dev/hdb1
log in as root and run: liloconfig (simple will work, then install to mbr[/dev/hda1]) reboot and choose slackware
