Lightweight applications

Hello everyone
I am using xfce and I like it

I am looking for lightweight applications for the following

-Looking email over imap. Something that will not mess with my thunderbird at work.
-Pdf reader
-Flash player, if any
-Writing and previewing latex documents
-Skype client

What are your tips ?

Regards
Alex

What do you mean with that? Any mail client will only access the accounts you configure it to. It will not have any effect on a mail client on a different computer.

Xpdf, Zathura.

You can try Gnash or Lightspark, but they are not up to par in features with the Adobe one.

Writing and previewing latex documents
For writing you can use any text editor, for previewing i don't know, but if IIRC there are commandline tools for that.

Skype client
AFAIK, only the Skype client supports Skype's protocol, but I may be wrong with that.

Instead of XFCE I recommend LXDE.

For a PDF viewer:
http://www.ghostscript.com/download/....html#NOTE%201
It has very good rendering, unlike many other pdf viewers like xpdf.

For LaTeX, you can set up Emacs with AUCTex.

Thunderbird or any email client. Claws mail is lightweight, but a bit complicated to configure.

Besides zathura and xpdf, there is qpdf, very fast and lightweight.

Dont bother with third party implementations, dont worth it.

The official Skype client is the only one. There is and will be no third party implementation until Microsoft is breathing.
