lightened xfree86

Does anyone know of any compile time options(or anytime options) to make a slim/lightweight xfree? I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for, I'm just curious about what options are available for people with slow hardware or who otherwise don't need all of the default features.

Thanks,
Aaron

Try using just a window managare rather than a desktop environment.

Ones I have tried and liked:

1. Fluxbox
2. Blackbox
3. Enlightenment

Seeing as you have Gentoo, have you thought about not running X? Check out the The Gentoo Framebuffer, Bootsplash (12VT) & Grubsplash How-To.

thanks, but i've been through those options already. on this machine (which is plenty fast for me) i'm using fluxbox on x and i have my consoles framebuffered (a BIG improvement over the standard console look).

i'm just looking for more options really. i've thought of trying directfb but it doesnt seem to have much hardware support yet.
