libXext - install method?

First off it was hard enough to find a working download for it, so then i get ahold of libXext.so.6.

It has two tarballs - one with a file on where things go called md5sums, and the other tarball had all the files that are supposed to go in their certain locations.

So, i put everything where it needed to be, but it's not installed. I'm guessing I did something very wrong.

I need libXext for a program called SMB4k that I have been trying to install since last week, but i can never make it all the way through ./configure without some kind of error, and this is the next one.

Can someone help me install libXext? There is no configure or anything.

libXext is a core part of the X server. you should already have it, and you don't want to be going manually installing whatever it is you've found. normally you should have /usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.so or somethign similar. do a locate for that file. if you're trying to install smb4k from source... 1) just get an rpm or 2) install the xorg-devel or xfree86-devel package, depending on which X server you're on... i'd imagine suse9.2 is going to be using Xorg, so that xorg-devel rpm will be on your distro cd's.
