Libreofficewriter
I have a problem with the libreofficewriter software. When examining my bank transactions (RBS) I get a screenlist of all the transactions and usually (under Microsoft) I can press control 'C' and they print out in full. Unfortunately I find that it will only print out one page (the page resident visually on the screen) and it also chops off part of the last line. Does anyone have this similar problem which I find comletely negates the value of Linux for me?

Is the error noticed while opening the RBS statement from within a browser or after saving and then reading from the saved file? I guess its from within the browser. Which browser did you use? Did you try using a different browser?
Try saving the bank statement and tell us the format. I suspect that it's a text file and the browser is not rendering the font and size as expected. Hence the truncation on the right (no word wrap) & last line being dropped.
OK

Hi AnanthaP,
Further:
I will try to put my problem re LibreOffice in greater context but I am limited to what I understand.
I am using Linux Mint Quiana 17.
Generally it is fine for my purpose. The one problem I have, and it is fundamental to whether Linux is suitable for my activities and relates to how I can print RBS bank statements. It may also arise with the statements from other banks but I don't know that. The same problem also arises with Government documentation. In particular application forms issued and completed electronically via the Internet.
The failure to print a schedule of transactions or text seems identicle. It only prints the part of the data currently visual on the screen. This occurs when addressing a schedule of data/transactions when using XP and engaged in completing or editing external forms/applications for other institutions: ie. Technology Strategy Board and RBS. The Browser used is Firefox and this is also used in XP internet activities.
This doesn't seem to offer much more to work on but I hope this helps clarify the problem to some extent?
Best regards.

Have you downloaded a file of your RBS statement? If so, what format was the file in? (what was the file name including extension e.g. mystatement.doc? mystatement.docx? mystatement.pdf?...)?
If you didn't download a file then why is Libreoffice involved at all? What browser are you using? Firefox? Chrome? something else? Can you not print directly from the browser? You should be able to find a PRINT command in the File menu.

Hi jdkaye,
Thank you for your response.
Yes, I have downloaded the statement into Calc. The Bank system offers MS Money, Quicken 2001 onwards (OFX file), Sage Line 50 (OFX file), and MS Excel,Lotus123, Text (CSV file) I have selcted this latter option (MS Excel). It transfers fine and will print out ok. But this is not what I need/want. I want the format that is presented on the screen but for the complete schedule of transactions. I could get this via the download after converting the excel type spreadsheet format but it is a lot of hassle. It would seems to me that it is just a small tweak to get it to do what is otherwise commonplace available? Moreover, it is simply not compatible to download the Technology Strategic Board on-line applications via Excel. It has to be a strict copy of what is being submitted.

jdk.
The browser I use in either Xp or Linux is Firefox.
My use of Control C is just habit and if I use File it produces the same problem. Ctrl C and print from Fileare the same.
Hope this clarifies.
Thnaks.

Not really. I'm afraid you lost me. The short cut to the print command in Firefox (I use Iceweasel but it's the same) is ctl-P and not ctl-c. I find no "Print from file" item in the File menu. Where exactly is the command found on Firefox? And if you're printing the page that appears on the screen what does that have to do with any file? The command is simply Print... (ctl-P). Do you mean "Print to File"?
Sorry but I really don't understand what you're trying to do. And in fact Libreoffice can print CSV files if you want to go that route.

edit: Oh and if you're still using Mint 16 you really should update it. According to the Mint webpage:

Sorry! You are right, I meant ctrl P.
Hi jdkaye,
Sorry to have mislead you with ref to Ctrl C. I can't imagine why I said this but we do things from time to time that are like that.
You referred in one of your responses to "I can't understand why I can't just print from the Browser". Well, that is what I am actually doing and it is the resulting output that is incorrect and not what I would usually expect. It only produces a page of screen text and not the whole schedule.
When addressing the bank transactions it is to - or within the bank website. When trying to print the details of the transactions I can either use Ctrl P or click on file in Firefox (in which I believe the whole process is being conducted)and select 'print'. In either case the result is the same - one page of screen text and which also prints the final line only half printed in the depth of the characters.
The bank website software separately provides the option to down load the transactions to a number of file protocols of which MS Excel is one. It also offers a download to PDF output. Both of these options are very time consuming and unnecessary. The output in excel needs substantial editing and reformating and the PDF output provides a page of the statement transactions at a time, each of which contain massive headings data and imaging not to mention the excessive large type which minimises the number of transactions in a page.
Perhaps I have managed to explain the situation a bit clearer this time, so many thanks for your contribution.

Have you tried to use the Print Preview item in the File menu. That way you can see exactly what will be produced by the print command. You can also decide which pages to print and which ones not to print.

control 'C' = copy
control 'v' = past
this is the same on windows , linux , and bsd
it is a mostly universal command
libreoffice has no problems importing MS xlsx excel files
where as ms office 2010 can NOT open the 2012 office xlsx file openopffice dose not have that issue
Quote:
It also offers a download to PDF

unless you want to pull out hair
do not use a pdf
there is a good chance it is a jpg photograph in a pdf container
as to editing a spreadsheet
write a macro in libreoffice
-- the sam as you would in ms office
and reformat it
or
seeing as it is likely a cvs type of data set
a perl,python,bash,... script will reformat it easily
