Libreoffice Outlines, other things I can't find..
 

Using ubuntu 11.10 x64. So, if I do "Format -> Bullets and Numbering... -> Outline tab -> OK". I can get a nice outline list thingy like below

I can't for the life of me figure out how to add a button similar to the Bullets On/Off & Numbering On/Off buttons that are there by default.

More importantly, I'd really like to just add a keyboard shortcut to create an outline like above.

I've tried doing "Toolbar Dialog Box thing -> Customize Toolbar -> Add -> Lots of Time Searching through Categories for the right command.." to no avail. Is it possible to add a toolbar button/keyboard shortcut to do this? I can't seem to find anything to do so.

I'm not using the same version, but I think you will have to write a macro that applies (or toggles) the style (as a named style, which should already exist), and then customise the toolbar (or keyboard) to run that macro.

I can't see a way apply/toggle styles directly via the customise dialogue, though it seems obvious and would be extremely useful.

Recording the keystrokes as a macro would be the best idea. Have a look in the help pages. When you've done that, you can put a button in the formating toolbar that runs it.

If you go to the OpenOffice site, you'll find some useful pdfs that still apply to LibreOffice. The "Getting started" and "Writer" ones will tell you all you'll ever need to know.

Highlight the text in question and select Format-->Bullets and Numbering-->Outline. That includes a bullet selection.

You may not like the default bullet graphics. I know I don't.

I created my own template and customized my own bullet hierarchy (and tabs and other stuff), but I must say that the one thing I've found greatly in need of simplification in OO/LO is the process for modifying and saving styles in templates.
