Libreoffice and Microsoft Publisher *.pub files
I have a task to do (write a newsletter for my condo association) which would be much easier if I could open MS Publisher *.pub files, because the existing file copies are in *.pub format.
According to the all-powerful giggle, there is a plugin for Open Office that can open *.pub files, but I don't want to Oracle. I went to the LO extension site, but could not find anything regarding *.pub files or Microsoft Publisher.
Does anyone have any suggestions about dealing with MS Publisher files on Linux, hopefully in LO?

It might be worth looking at Zamzar and it's free of charge. I couldn't find much on local conversion options. There's also API's out there for converting but again it's web based which isn't necessarily what you want.
Scribus has some crappy docs about importing pub files but they assume you have a copy of publisher.

Hi there,
I assume you only need to do this once, after which you can save in a different format?
I haven't tried to do this since 2008, but at the time I converted the file using http://www.zamzar.com/ first, and then edited it with Linux tools. If you convert to PDF, LibreOffice should be able to open it. Other online converters are also available, and it might be worth trying a few, to see which offers the best target format, and does the best conversion job. One other converter I saw mentioned in an Ubuntu forum is http://convert.neevia.com/pdfconvert/, but I haven't tried it.
Also check out http://libregraphicsworld.org/blog/e...to-libreoffice - support will be here in LibreOffice 3.7 - not sure when that will be though.
As an aside, you might also want to look at Scribus as an alternate to LO for this job.

Two votes for Zamzar. I'll definitely give it a look.
As for the immediate issue, the board president was able to send me a *.pdf. I as able to copy and paste the boilerplate text I needed from that. (It's actually a pretty laid-back condo board--that's one reason I was willing to take this on.)
