Libreoffice 3.6 will not open .ppt files in impress

Hello, everyone. I have been trying to open a .ppt file in libreoffice. It does open in the program, but instead of opening in impress, it opens in writer. This leads to a lot of pages and symbols which makes absolutely no sense. I was hoping someone might have a solution for me. Thanks in advance.

You can try 2 things:
1. Right click the .ppt file => Open with other application => LibreOffice Impress (This is the menu as of Mint MATE 13 x64).
2. If #1 does not work. Try convert .ppt to .pptx on windows (if you have on windows machine). Also, search on google for more details on this.

libreoffice, load, microsoft, open
