Id said the same thing even thou I installed it
but when when I installed the rpm it said:

not wrong, but never force anything unless you have to, also there should ebn a version of alsa on your distro cd's so you shouldn't need to revert to freshrpms

Which RedHat rpm has libasound?
I tried searching for it in the RedHat9 distribution but could not find it.

skype alsa-lib : fixed
do the easier way:
# yum install alsa-lib.i386
it works!
