Lib Packages Not Installed? Please Help!
Hi, i've been using linux for about a month now, tried RedHat 9, disliked, Fedora Core 2, disliked, SuSE 9.1, Liked :) , but now this are getting a bit messy. Almost EVERY program i install using YaST (rpm's) have some missing lib's, like some libs. I have one program that needs like 4 libs i dont have, one with 2 and one with 1 etc.
Am i missing these packages? is there a place to install a bunch if libs at once in a packaga or rpm? if so please tell me! here are some examples of some files im missing. libgtkglext-x11-1.0.so.0 librm.so.1.5 libcal3d-0.9.1.so libgdkglext-x11-1.0.0 All these are required by one program (a game ofcourse for linux) almost all i install require files like these. Please help me! Thanks In Advance, DozenEggs |
I've never used Suse but AFAIK rpm's are supposed to take care of dependencies, so there might be something wrong with your rpm database. But what I can suggest is go to rpmseek.com, select search for filename and enter the file you want. It should find the rpm with that file in it

nah....
RPM does not resolve dependencies. You have to search for and install everything it complains about. I'm hoping YAST can do that.
|
I think it is supposed to. If not, and it bugs you, trash Suse and install Mandrake or Debian. Either of those will resolve the dependancies and install them for you. Others will have other ideas and distros to offer as solutions, but I think you can probably coax Yast to do what you need. Suse wouldn't be so popular if it was a pain to install everything.

umm
I wont trash Suse thnx but do i have to search for the files sepreately?
|
Dunno. Does kpackage work for you? Its a thought.
|
?
kpackage? Never heard of it, can you tell me what it is please?
|
Front end for rpm and apt to list and resolve dependancies. Part of the KDE packages. According to what I have found on the net, it looks likemYast should be resolving dependancies and installing for you. Perhaps you had better read the chapter in your manuall about Yast. It should clear things up.

By the way, the "packages" you are missing
libgtkglext-x11-1.0.so.0 librm.so.1.5 libcal3d-0.9.1.so libgdkglext-x11-1.0.0 are not packages in themselves, they are libraries, which are part of the contents of a package. To find out which package contains the libraries you are missing, try entering the library name in a Google search, a search at http://www.rpmseek.com/index.html , or http://rpm.pbone.net/ . |
