I hate to say it, but I don't think it will work. I've been trying for a couple of months with no luck. I even tried to set up a samba share to use it and I couldn't get anything to print out except garble.
I had to ressurect an old print device and hook it up to my linux box. I know that's not the answer you wanted to hear.
If you do find an answer, please post it because I would really like to use my X83 with redhat.

RH9 with X83 Lexmark.
Is it possible to use the X73 driver (which according to linuxprinting.org partially works) for the X83?
I think x73 is just an earlier model of x83
Thanks.
