Legacy ISA Network Card
 

I've got an old ISA network card I want to use in this very old box of mine. I've managed to get Red Hat 6.2 onto this thing, and the only PCI slot is taken by another network card. In case you were wondering, I AM trying to make it into a gateway server, hence the two network cards.
How do I go about configuring this card? The kernel did not automatically see the ISA network card, but it did see the PCI one, and that NIC is set up properly. Is there a way to get the kernel to "see" the ISA card, or do I have to do some funky programming?

Probably no "funky programming" involved, but you may need to set the IRQ and I/O address range via jumpers on the card or a DOS configuration program. A little more information would help:

-What is the exact model of the ISA NIC?

-Do you know what driver (module) it uses?

-Do you have the installation/utility disks that came with the card?

Truthfully, I didn't want to use that card anyways. I figured out how to get it working, somewhat. Actually, I messed with the bios and the kernel somehow found the card once or twice. So, I set up a kernel module for it. Magically, the next reboot, it disappeared from dmesg, so I just said "Screw it" and went out to buy a newer 10/100 PCI card instead. $10 too, works just fine, no problems.
