Leaving a copy of mail in the server

How can I receive emails with evolution from gmail, leaving a copy of emails in the server?

Ok, this isn't difficult.

In Evolution, select the "Edit" menu - "Edit Preferences"

It will display a box with "Mail Accounts" as the first entry. If you have more than one account, click on the one you want to change. Then click "edit".

On the third tab "receiving options" you can select to leave a copy of the mail on the server and if you want to have them deleted after a period of your choice.

Also, in Gmail, make sure you have it set to keep Gmail's copy of the messages.

Imap

If you setup your mail application to access your e-mail account using the IMAP protocol, then your mails will be stored on the server until you explicitly delete them. Even POP3 accounts can be accessed by IMAP protocol (otherwise I'm a wizard without knowing it).

I do believe Gmail provides both IMAP and POP3 access, so you don't need to be a wizard to do it either way
