Learning pronunciation: play-record-play software needed

As a user, I need a voice recorder allowing me this:

1. Play a .wav/.mp3 file to the earphones and record from the mic simultaneously. (1 mouse click at most upon loading the file).
2. While doing 1., do NOT overwrite the above file but store the result somewhere in RAM.
3. Play the combination of what was obtained in 1 (two mouse clicks at most after doing 1).

Ideas for pieces of software for Ubuntu (and, perhaps, Debian) allowing me to do this?

FFmpeg will capture whatever you wish. You'll need to tell it what you want to capture. Playing a .wav file, any media player will do that.
Capture the wav audio, and mic audio, output to another file, play second file.

Have you tried Audacity? It's not exactly a "voice recorder" because it's much more, but it can easily do what you need.

Looks like there's something to work with:
- cross-platform (java) software
- native Linux software
- other software, then go to alternativeto.net/ and see if there's something for Linux...
