Learning command path of program from icon in dashboard

This might be answered already, but I don't know the terminology well enough to find out.

I am wondering how to find out the commandline path of a program which I can only seem to run from pressing the Windows key, typing in the program name, and clicking the icon that shows up.

I'd like to make it a startup program, but I don't know the path.

Thanks very much,
Matt

Run the following command as root or using sudo.
Code:
updatedb
Now run this command (no need to be root)
Code:
locate <program name>
and it will give you the path
jdk

^ i think find would be preferable but syntactically slightly more complicated.

either way, i think which is more appropriate:
Code:
[schneidz@hyper perceptionists-black-dialogue]$ which firefox
/usr/bin/firefox

Solved

Ok. So I used the 'locate' command and it gave me such a huge output that I couldn't even attach the txt i siphoned it into.

The 'which' command assumes I know the shortcut. I didn't.

With a bit of intuition, I was able to wade through the output and found that the shortcut is XMind.

Thx!
