Leafpad cursor vanishes on save

Whenever I'm using leafpad, as soon as I save, my cursor pointer completely vanishes until I manage to get it off the window. If I get it back in it's gone. This is VERY annoying. Is there a way to fix this? Not finding much on Google, it seems I have the worst luck with Linux and always run into stupid little issues like that. Thanks in advance.

Also I'm open to another simple text editor. I use Kate for coding but sometimes you just want a quick editor for taking notes or what not.

FC9? Really? With F21 just around the corner?

To your question - mousepad (XFCE's editor) is another lightweight. I just use geany for all of my text editing and non-ide-based coding,

Tried mousepad, but it still does the same thing. It looks like that is just another name for leafpad as it looks exactly the same but different name. Also it seems to not always do it on save, but it always does it as soon as I start typing, the only way to get the cursor back is to close out and reopen.

Also this is on Kubuntu, not FC9. FC9 is my main server. I'm working on migrating all the services to a new OS though as I recently built a new VM server, but that's another story.
