Okay! I figured this one out...it was simpler than I anticipated. When I log into my laptop I use a password each time as a protection in case the computer is lost or stolen. What the computer was asking for was actually my router security code which I installed when I first set up the router. For some reason it got overridden or was damaged in the process of making a system upgrade, etc. Whatever the case, once I installed that the computer worked like a charm! I figured it had to be something local because when I took the laptop to wifi hotspots it worked flawlessly. Anyway, thanks one and all for your suggestions and commitment to this fine website!
