Laptop has 100 Pixels bad, how do I modify xorg to compensate

I have a laptop I want to use as a backup but it has a verticle line about 100 pixels wide on the far left of the screen. The rest of the screen is flawless.

Is there a way to modify my xorg configuration so that instead of having a 1280x800 screen, it thinks I have a 1180x800 and puts the picture to the right? The idea is that linux would not use those bad pixels anyways and so I'd be able to see everything that is open.

Since it's a backup and is not used much, I want to cheap out and skip buying a new screen if I can avoid it. I'm fine with missing 100 pixels.

I'm running linux mint 16 cinnamon 64 bit.

Thanks for any tips or ideas.

If you are lucky and have nVidia card(maybe its going to work with others...) you could try this tutorial where you can generate your own x server configuration files.
Code:
