language support

Hello!

I need to copy files from an old computer through the ext console (not x-windows). However, there are many files that are in a foriegn language and all that shows up when using ls is ????. I cannot copy these files either.

How can I copy these files or have a console session recogzine hebrew. I know I have done it in KDE, but the computer is too slow to use any Xwindows.

Help would be great!

Murdock

Details---we need DETAILS!!

What file system on the old computer?
Since you have run ls, I infer that you have mounted the drive under Linux. What does fdisk say?
What is the complete output from ls? (Note that this utility could care less about the language of the files, so that does not account for "????")
You say you cannot copy---are you using "cp" at the command line? What happens?

It is a vfat file system.

When I cp, it says invalid argument in filename. Don't know what is going on.

Thanks,
Murdock
