Are you trying to log in from GDM/KDM/XDM?
Pop over into a TTY and try logging in there - get to a TTY by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 (or F2, F3...press Alt+F7 to go back to your X display screen, :0).

I don't know why it's asking for a SmartCard, but you probably can't log in by typing in your username and password due to the keymap.

If that doesn't work, you can boot into single-user mode (no password required) and just change all your passwords.

At the GRUB screen, hit esc, then "e" for edit. Add the word "single" to the kernel line, then boot. It will come up in terminal mode with root privileges.
