lame wav2mp3 encoding help

I have a directory of wav files that I would like to encode into mp3s, and this command doesn't seem to work:

lame -V3 *.wav *.mp3

Does anyone know what the problem could be? Does lame not support batch processing like oggenc? And if it doesn't, is there another good wav to mp3 encoder I could use?

You need to use a script like mlame or autolame. Google around for that. There is are many fornt-ends to lame like lamex. Also other apps like grip, ripperx. Just google around and see what you like.

Gawd. Those scripts look like a pain. And grip only works with CDs. It would probably be better if I just used a Windows program with Wine. I really don't have time for a research project right now. Thank you though for your help.

You could also try it without the extension since lame is designed to convert from wav to mp3. From the directory where the wav files are stored try:

lame -V3 *
